D ec 1 99 4 Order parameter description of the Anderson - Mott transition

چکیده
An order parameter description of the Anderson-Mott transition (AMT) is given. We first derive an order parameter field theory for the AMT, and then present a mean-field solution. It is shown that the mean-field critical exponents are exact above the upper critical dimension. Renormalization group methods are then used to show that a random-field like term is generated under renormalization. This leads to similarities between the AMT and random-field magnets, and to an upper critical dimension d + c = 6 for the AMT. For d < 6, an ǫ = 6 − d expansion is used to calculate the critical exponents. To first order in ǫ they are found to coincide with the exponents for the random-field Ising model. We then discuss a general scaling theory for the AMT. Some well established scaling relations, such as Wegner's scaling law, are found to be modified due to random-field effects. New experiments are proposed to test for random-field aspects of the AMT.

Resonating valence bond states in a doped Mott insulator was proposed to explain superconductivity in cuprates in January 1987 by Anderson. A challenging task then was proving existence of this unconventional mechanism and a wealth of possibilities, with a rigor acceptable in standard condensed matter physics, in a microscopic theory and develop suitable many body techniques. Shortly, a paper...
متن کاملSe p 19 99 Underlying Pairing States of High T c Superconductivity
In this talk, I present a microscopic theory I proposed recently to describe high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates. I show that coherent pairing states consisting of extended singlet Cooper pairs and triplet π pairs can manifest both the Mott insulating antiferromagnetic order and the d-wave superconducting order. From this configuration of coherent pairing states, I can describe both the singl...
متن کاملNontrivial fixed point in a twofold orbitally degenerate Anderson impurity model.
We study a twofold orbitally degenerate Anderson impurity model which shows a nontrivial fixed point similar to that of the two-impurity Kondo model, but remarkably more robust, as it can only be destabilized by orbital- or gauge-symmetry breaking. The impurity model is interesting per se, but here our interest is rather in the possibility that it might be representative of a strongly correlate...
متن کاملMetal-insulator transitions in the periodic Anderson model.
We solve the periodic Anderson model in the Mott-Hubbard regime, using dynamical mean field theory. Upon electron doping of the Mott insulator, a metal-insulator transition occurs which is qualitatively similar to that of the single band Hubbard model, namely, with a divergent effective mass and a first order character at finite temperatures. Surprisingly, upon hole doping, the metal-insulator ...
متن کاملCritical behavior at the mott-anderson transition: a typical-medium theory perspective.
We present a detailed analysis of the critical behavior close to the Mott-Anderson transition. Our findings are based on a combination of numerical and analytical results obtained within the framework of typical-medium theory-the simplest extension of dynamical mean field theory capable of incorporating Anderson localization effects. By making use of previous scaling studies of Anderson impurit...
